PPWSA Promises Suburbs Will No Longer Face Water Shortage from May

PHNOM PENH: After receiving many complaints of a water shortage problem and low water pressure in the suburbs of Phnom Penh, the city’s Water Supply Authority has promised to solve this problem by May onwards.

The Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority (PPWSA) has asked for the people’s understanding and tolerance while it works towards systematically fixing the water shortage problem by May 2023.

The authority explained that the shortage is caused by the demand for clean water increasing to more than 890,000 cubic meters per day in Phnom Penh, while the city is currently only able to produce around 640,000 cubic meters per day.

The PPWSA has said it hopes that by the beginning of May, a new water treatment plant will be able to produce and distribute an additional 200,000 cubic meters of clean water per day, covering the current deficit.

The Water Supply authority claims that from the beginning of 2024, Phnom Penh will be able to produce an additional 200,000 cubic meters of clean water per day, increasing the production capacity to more than 1 million cubic meters per day, ensuring that the water needs of people living in Phnom Penh and Takhmao will be properly met.

The PPWSA calls on all residents of Phnom Penh and Takhmao to conserve and share water with their neighbors in the suburbs.
